Is there Someone greater inside of you?
I heard someone say recently "I know there is something greater inside of me," and knowing that person very well I agreed. Many times we allow fear and doubt to stop our greater self from surfacing. As a result, we live way below our potential. While it is possible to live a good life this way, it will not be a fulfilled one.
I believe that God created us to fulfill certain tasks here on earth. As a matter of fact, the Scriptures state in Ephesians 2:10, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Every great inventor stepped up to their calling and forever changed the way we live. When Edison felt the urge to build the light bulb, it did not matter how many times he failed. What mattered was bringing into our reality what was only a dream inside of him. Steve Jobs did not settle for the Blackberry. Something, or someone inside of him demanded that the world desired a more exciting user experience, and the IPhone was birthed.
What about you? Is there someone greater inside that needs to come out? Many people stay in jobs and careers way past the time of effectiveness out of fear of trying something new. Some are unsure where to start. They only know that they are no longer in the "flow" of their lives.
Renowned psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, who first coined the term "state of flow", describes this as a state of optimal internal motivation, or being in the "zone", doing what you love, to the point where it does not feel like work. In this state of being, I would presume that one would be operating as their most creative self.
Whether you are at half time (50 or older), or just starting out, I believe it is more fulfilling to do work that brings about your greatest contribution to this world. Take some time to explore and find out what you were created to do, and if you are not doing that, then get about doing it. You owe That Person inside of you the opportunity to make a difference in this world!
